  • Meet Sylvia

     She is in the shop.

I grew up watching every Charlie Brown cartoon that came along. My favorite of the the Charlie Brown Gang was Peppermint Patty. I liked her no nonsense approach to life and the way she always called Charlie Brown "Chuck."

  • I've been sewing!

Sometimes a person just has to make up their mind and decide what their going to do. I've played around for over a year with an Etsy store idea. I put a few things in once but didn't really get into learning about Etsy and how it works and sold nothing.
In case your not familiar with Etsy, click the link and read their description of what they are. Etsy provides a good oppourtunity for a stay at home mom like myself to have a bit of industry and still be a keeper at home.

I started stocking my store in early October. For now I'm making Waldorf style dolls and doll clothes. I'm hoping in the future to branch out into sewing vintage type apparel for babies and children.

A few pictures of what is and what was in my shop.

    Was in the shop. :)

Meet Gracie...she was in the shop.

And this is her twin...Sophia. She was in the shop too. A wonderful customer liked Gracie but really wanted a doll with brown hair and brown eyes instead of black hair and blue eyes like Gracie's. I learned custom orders are fun and I learned to give myself more time to complete them. :)

The dolls, from start to finish are handmade with all natural fibers by me. Their bodies are stuffed with wool, hair is wool yarn, skin is cotton. I knit each doll underwear and usually a sweater.

I love purple polka dot fabric!

I love this little smock! It reminds me of my childhood. I don't know why...I don't think I ever had a smock to wear but I get this nostalgic feeling when I make them. Its sort of addicting. (the nostalgic feeling that is) If I'd of had a smock like this when I was a girl I would have had the pockets full of treasures.

Livia is loving that I started an Etsy store. As I've been working out my patterns etc there have been several goofs along the way and she gets the "goofs."

My store is named Folky Dots and can be found here.

  • Time for Another Give Away!

    But first some explaining.

When I've done giveaways, I've usually made it one of my qualifying rules that in order to get your name in the basket, my blog must be linked back too. I saw with the last give away that there was some confusion about this so I wanted to explain exactly what I'm looking for when I ask for linking back. Linking back means that you go to your blog and post a link either on your side bar or (as I actually prefer) in a blog post. That way people who read your blog can click on the link you've left there and make it to my blog  through the link you posted. I'd like for the link at your blog to be left at the time you enter the give away.

The second thing is when I say "reputable blog" I mean blogs that are not related to anything evil, satanic or just in general of a "dark" nature. Nearly anyone whose going to be looking at my little sewing blog is going to have a reputable blog. :)

    On to the fun stuff.
Up for give away is a  Baby dress and either matching or coordinating cloth Mary Jane shoes. I've made a few of these dresses and shoes and they are sweet. (Pictures of said dresses and shoes can be found a few blog posts back or on facebook pictures :))

    The rules
    1. I either have to know you or you have to have a reputable blog that you actually blog at.
    2. If I know you, I have to like you.
    3. Leave your name and the link to your blog in my comments.
    4. Link back to my blog at your blog.
    5. Wives kiss your husband and tell him you love him.

Entry time closes Wednesday, July 29th at 9 pm. Winner will be announced shortly thereafter.

    Have fun!

  • AMERICAN JANET'S APRON!

This is by far one of the easiest aprons I've ever made. Making all the bias was a little time consuming but for the most part, homemade bias is way better than store bought bias tape.So in the end making bias tape and sewing it on is way more satisfying and gratifying than buying bias tape and sewing it on. Although I like store bought bias tape too. I like homemade better. Have I said that already?

As it turns out, American Janet lives not to far from the farmers market that our family frequents every week to sell our baked good, tamales and various other items like homemade blackberry jam, dresses, baby shoes and aprons, when I'm not giving them all away because they make such good gifts! But I digress...Janet is going to come by the market tomorrow and I hope beyond hope I get to be there to give her the apron in person. In person is so much more personal.

I found Janets blog a year or so ago. I would have never noticed it except at the time the name of her blog was "Ozark Farm Girl" and since I happen to live in the great Ozarks I clicked on her blog to see if I by any chance I knew her and to see just where in the Ozarks she lived. All this time and I've yet to meet her although shes been to market and bought baked goods from my daughter and didn't know at the time it was my daughter. Its such a small world.

So without futher ado (and because theres been enough ado already) a photo, because I'm co-dependant and
need to feed the addiction of other apron addicts.

I hope you like your apron Janet!
